Risks & Rules

  • Uzumé is a private residence and a place of peace and tranquility. Please respect the privacy of others.

  • Do not enter the staff residential areas unless invited.

  • Sound carries very easily around our property. Please keep your voices low and do not play loud music.

  • We do not allow additional guests during the day, nor to stay the night beyond the reserved number of guests.

  • We currently do not allow pets.

  • No smoking indoors. Please dispose of cigarette butts in rubbish bins.

  • No use of fire (candles, incense sticks, fireworks, etc) except for lighting mosquito coils, usingthe BBQ and designated fireplaces.

  • No strong smelling fragrances indoors.

  • No illicit drugs.

  • Uzumé is not a hotel with room service and concierge. We do however offer a message service for any questions you may have during your stay.

  • We will do our best to fix any malfunctioning equipment in a timely manner but it may not be possible to make repairs during your stay. We do not offer refunds in case of equipment malfunctions.

  • Guests are responsible for all breakages and loss to property.

  • Momiji is located within a forest and attracts many insects. In particular, centipedes, wasps and bees can be harmful. Whilst we do our best to remove insects each day we do not accept any responsibility for any harm to guests including bites.

  • Do not touch the statues as they are made of very soft stone.

  • The second floor and rooftop balconies, and dining room window are relatively low and dangerous.

  • Access to the rooftop beyond the bath is prohibited as it is slippery and has no protection.

  • We have four friendly free-range dogs at Uzumé. We ask guests to keep the first floor door to Momiji closed at all times to prevent dogs from entering.

  •  The lake is owned by the village and entering the lake is strictly prohibited.

  • No commercial filming or photography within Uzumé and Momiji without prior consent.

  • Please respect the local village community.

  • The road to Uzumé is extremely narrow and it is easy to get stuck in the gutter. Vehicles can also be damaged whilst parked within or nearby Uzumé such as from fallen branches. We accept no liability for damage done to guest vehicles.

  • Please beware of various hazards around Uzumé. These include, but are not limited to, poisonous snakes; slippery and uneven walking surfaces; poisonous plants; sharp tree branches; falling tree branches; a very deep lake; electric fences (switched on during the evening); sharp tools and other dangerous equipment.

  • Keep to paths. Do not enter the forest or garden area outside the paths.

  • Beware of animal traps which have been set around Uzumé. These can be avoided by keeping to paths.

  • Do not pick or forage any edibles unless supervised by Uzumé staff.

  • Do not enter enclosed animal areas unless supervised by Uzumé staff.

  • Do not touch tools and machinery unless supervised by Uzumé staff.

  • Uzumé is NOT child-friendly, albeit is a great place of learning for children. We ask that all children be supervised at all times.

  • Upon arrival, all guests must agree to sign our Liability Waiver form, that they have read and understood all our risks, will follow all our rules and agree to release us from liability for any damages to guests or their property that may arise during their stay with us.
